Perhaps you’ve gathered from my social media posts and blogs, that I’m a huge advocate of mindfulness practices for the military, but also in general. You may be asking yourself, how does this fit in with designing vacations for travelers and groups wanting to explore Asia? On the surface, the two don’t connect directly, but allow me to dig a little deeper.
My passion for exploring the world meets its match when it comes to taking care of soldiers and service members. Throughout my career in the Army, the concept of taking care of troops became ingrained into my daily thinking and actions. This hasn’t gone away.
Now, however, I get choose the area upon which to concentrate my efforts. I’ve chosen to bring mindfulness, meditation, and yoga to the military so that service members can benefit from having these self awareness tools and skills to use from the beginning of their careers.
Beneficial “benefits” service members by contributing funds to those non-profit organizations that support the goal stated above. That’s the first connection - generating sustainable revenue for consistent donations to public charities that help veterans and service members.
The second connection is more broad. It’s about making people aware of the beauty in this world through the shared connections we experience through traveling together. But how does one really “experience” a place or a culture? Surely the answer is different for each of us, but we can start by being fully present in every moment.
Mindfulness practices like meditation or breathwork teach us how to be fully present, noticing, witnessing all that is happening around us. We begin to become aware of thoughts and beliefs and can perhaps distance ourselves just a bit from them to notice if they really serve us in this life.
Having that ability to witness and observe while traveling increases our ability to connect with and perhaps understand other people and cultures. At least it has for me and this is what I aim to share through my writing and my brand as a travel professional. If this resonates with you, please spread and share my message.
